Iti Kōpara

Public Governance Aotearoa

Iti Kōpara – Public Governance Aotearoa is an independent registered charitable trust established by a group of experienced public sector directors, with support from Te Kawa Mataaho: Public Service Commission, New Zealand Government Ministries and agencies, and Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington.

We were deeply saddened at the passing of Dame Karen Poutasi. Dame Karen was a presenter at most of our seven cohorts to date and unsurprisingly received glowing feedback from participants. Her deep knowledge and experience and her calm and considered style made a big impact. We are confident that, as our alumni exercise their governance skills, her impact will continue, and Aotearoa New Zealand will be a better place for it. Moe mai rā e te kahurangi, okioki ai.

Our kaupapa

Our kaupapa is the pursuit of public governance excellence.
We develop and deliver competency development and refresher training for public sector governance Boards. Read more about us here.

Courses

We offer three in-person courses that complement each other. All current courses are held in Wellington.

Our existing Crown Entity Governance course is now a two-day course that we strongly recommend as a starting point.

Strategic Financial Governance and Regulatory Leadership have been developed by Iti Kōpara and Te Kawa Mataaho: Public Service Commission, The Treasury, Ministry for Regulation and MBIE.

All three are practitioner courses and provide up-to-date content – drawing heavily on guest practitioners’ experience.
